Veterinarians

Our Veterinarians provide our veterinary care services, perform examinations, and develop treatment plans.

was interested in wildlife and the outdoors from a very early age and graduated from Lethbridge College with a diploma in environmental science, and received his degree in veterinary medicine in 2005 from University of Saskatchewan. On days were he can get away from work, he can usually be found at the airport flying around in a 1947 Stinson or on the back of a horse with his family. He and his wife Cerah, also a Veterinarian at the clinic, have 3 beautiful children.

Dr. Jason Schonknecht

graduated from the Veterinary Medicine program at the University of Calgary in 2014, he was born and raised at a cattle ranch just outside of Barrhead. After vet school Jason returned to Barrhead with his wife Lisa who also was born and raised in town. His primary interest is in Large Animal Medicine but loves the little critters too and one day hopes to own a chocolate lab. If you can't find him at the clinic you will likely find him on the golf course.

Tammy grew up on a farm near Fallis, AB. She has been working in rural mixed animal practice since graduating from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. Tammy enjoys the diversity of animals in mixed practice and working with their owners. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her 2 daughters and critters at home, being active and outdoors. She spends a lot of time as the 4H Veterinary Science Project leader for local 4H clubs.

Dr. Derk Pierik

Dr. Marthe Wildsmith

graduated from with as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from University of Calgary in 2019. She’s also musically talented with a diploma in Piano Performance (Jazz and Popular Music) from Grant MacEwan University prior to going back to school for veterinary medicine. If Marthe looks familiar to you, it’s because she was a student at our practice in 2019! Marthe was born and raised around Edmonton. Her and her husband Kyle, have 2 cats and a horse. When she’s not hard at work, you will likely find her outdoors, enjoying activities such as backcountry hiking, camping, skiing, snowboarding).

Primary interest is Equine medicine (but likes all animals).

These ladies are like nurses in a hospital - we count on them for patient care, monitoring aesthetics, performing lab work, and routine nail trims.

has been an RVT since 2017! She grew up competing in the Rodeo circuit since she was 9 year old. Now her and her husband live in the Barrhead area, taking on client horses to train as a side hobby! She loves emergency medicine, but is super excited to work to be working in our rural mixed animal practice! You will see her here most Saturdays and if you do be sure to chat her up about her animals, she’s has quite a few! We love having Alyson around, she is super easy to get along with, and just goes with the flow!

Our receptionists are usually the first person you talk to when you call the clinic! They are in charge of booking appointments, inventory control, and assisting clients up front.

Bree

is a friendly face upfront who loves learning all things veterinary. She is a really good meal planner, and makes us super jealous with all of her homemade lunches. Bree's a busy mom of two gorgeous kids and loves to cook. She calls Barrhead home, where she lives with her two cats and kids. She still manages to find the time for teaching herself how to play the electric guitar and keyboard. You'll find her attending multiple concerts through out the year. We love Bree's willingness to learn and her energy, we give her a job, and its done!

Helena

is a super familiar friendly face at the front desk. She has retired from the RVT life, and now that her kids have grown, she graciously comes in on a part time basis to help us out. She is always so good to our clients, and we love how she cheerful she always is. We like to bug her because she's a bit emotional, she cries with our clients on their pets last visit here. She also cries and celebrates when our clients open their hearts to love again. It's super endearing and we love her huge heart.

grew up in Swan Hills and went to NAIT for Office and Records Administration. Sarah joined Barr-North Veterinary Services Ltd. in 2018 after spending 9 years staying home to raise her kids. She now enjoys lake front living near Barrhead, with her husband and two boys. She can often be found cuddling on the couch with her dog, or outside with her family and friends, spending their time having campfires, doing water sports, and going skiing.

Public Relations

Holly

joined Barr-North Veterinary Services as a receptionist and as our Director of Marketing and public relations. Her happy smile and life is good attitude makes her the perfect person for this job. Holly lives in Tiger Lily on the farm she grew up on. Her family loves camping, trips to BC, campfires, and hockey and sledding in the winter. She has a love of all animals, making it a habit to rescue animals and find them forever homes. She spends any spare time doting on her own animals which includes 2 large dogs, mini donkey, horses, and multiple feline friends around the farm. Being busy only makes Holly happier and we are lucky to have her energy on our staff.
