Our People

Veterinarians
We are looking at the animals and developing treatment plans with the owners.

Dr. Tanya Knittig has been at this practice for over 10 years now.  Her area of interest is primarily small animal with extra training in nutrition, abdominal ultrasound, cruciate surgery, and using the laser.  She lives with her husband and two daughters in Barrhead and due to allergies in her family has no furry critters at home.  So, don't be surprised if she spends a few extra minutes with your pets for that special animal contact she loves! Dr. Chris Bowyer was interested in wildlife and the outdoors from a very early age and graduated from Lethbridge College with a diploma in environmental science, and received his degree in veterinary medicine in 2005 from University of Saskatchewan. On days were he can get away from work, he can usually be found at the airport flying around in a Cessna or on the back of a horse with his family. He and his wife Cerah, also a Veterinarian at the clinic, have 3 beautiful children.
Dr. Cerah Bowyer graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006, her focus is on large animal, in particular equine.  Cerah is a certified Veterinary Acupuncturist and animal Chiropractor.  In her spare time she loves to be out with her 3 children, and enjoys riding horses and walking her dogs. Dr. Derk Pierik graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. He is primarily a large animal veterinarian with a focus on dairy herd health. He has fostered his dairy interest by attending the Cornell Summer Dairy Institute. He moved to Barrhead in the fall of 2011 with his wife and two children. He and his family are excited to become part of the great community of Barrhead.
Dr. Jason Schonknecht graduated from the Veterinary Medicine program at the University of Calgary in 2014, he was born and raised at a cattle ranch just outside of Barrhead. After vet school Jason returned to Barrhead with his wife Lisa who also was born and raised in town. His primary interest is in Large Animal Medicine but loves the little critters too and one day hopes to own a chocolate lab. If you can't find him at the clinic you will likely find him on the golf course.
